VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – NDP Leader Tom Mulcair says Canada is not pulling its weight when it comes to dealing with what he calls the worst humanitarian crisis since the Second World War.
He’s criticizing the Harper government over the migrant crisis in Europe, saying Canada hasn’t done enough to help the massive numbers of refugees fleeing Syria and Iraq.
But Harper says Canada continues to be the largest single recipient per capita of foreigners of any country in the world.
Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau says his party had already promised to more than double the number of refugees Canada would take in before the election campaign started.
Mulcair played street hockey with kids in Kamloops this morning after promising to invest $28-million in Sport Canada if his party forms the next government.
Mulcair says the money would help support youth sports and encourage poor and disadvantaged youth to get involved in organized sports.
He says the funding will help families with the cost of registration fees, equipment and transportation.
Conservative leader Stephen Harper will appear at a custom window and door manufacturer in Abbotsford tonight, along with local candidate Ed Fast.
Elsewhere, Justin Trudeau of the Liberals is in Quebec and the Green Party’s Elizabeth May is in New Brunswick.
